Stony Brook fishing charter.
25 minutes east on 25A — private trips for 1–4 anglers.
Captain Skippy Charters is the go-to private fishing charter for the Stony Brook area — a straight shot east on Route 25A from Stony Brook Village and Stony Brook University to Mount Sinai Marina, about a 25-minute drive. We're a private-only charter running out of a quieter marina than Port Jefferson, with fast access to the fishing grounds and a boat rigged for 1–4 anglers.
Family-friendly private charters
A lot of our Stony Brook customers are Stony Brook University families, alumni groups, and neighbors wanting a real Long Island Sound experience without the head-boat crowds. Kids love the Christina M II — a 26-ft Down East with a heated cabin — and the boat is set up for smaller anglers with kid-sized life jackets and a captain who's been teaching first-timers for 20+ years.
What we target on a Stony Brook trip
From Mount Sinai we work the central Long Island Sound: the ledges and structure of Old Field, Crane Neck, Rocky Point, and the Middle Grounds. Target species on the Half-Day Mixed Bag (May 1 – October 10): striped bass, bluefish, fluke, black sea bass and porgies. In the fall (October 11 – November 30) we shift to the Fall Blackfish (tautog) trip.
Half-day trip length fits your day
A half-day charter with us is 5 hours on the water. Morning trips typically leave between 5:00 AM and 9:00 AM; afternoon trips focus on the sunset bite and leave 3:00–5:00 PM. Either way, you're home in time for dinner or the game. From Stony Brook, plan 25 minutes to the dock.
Directions from Stony Brook
Take Route 25A east through Setauket and Port Jefferson to Mount Sinai. Turn north on Harbor Beach Road, pass the marina guard booth, and take the first left after the stop sign into the Town Marina lot. Far east side, first dock — the Christina M II.
