Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to making the site usable by everyone.
Captain Skippy Charters is committed to making captainskippyfishingcharters.com usable by everyone, regardless of ability or the tools they use. This statement explains the accessibility standards we follow, known limitations, and how to get in touch if something isn't working for you.
Standard we aim for
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA across the entire site. The site is hand-coded with semantic HTML5 and does not rely on plug-ins or accessibility overlays.
What we have built in
- A skip-to-content link on every page for keyboard users.
- Semantic headings (a single H1 per page and a consistent H2/H3 hierarchy).
- Descriptive alt text on every content image.
- Descriptive filenames and lightbox captions on gallery images.
- Visible focus indicators on interactive elements.
- Keyboard-accessible navigation, forms, and interactive components.
- ARIA labels on interactive icons, breadcrumbs, and the site navigation.
- Color-contrast checked against WCAG AA thresholds; non-color cues on links and buttons.
- Video hero delivered with a fallback poster image and no audio track requirement.
- Responsive layout that reflows down to 320 px width and supports 200% browser zoom without loss of function.
- Reduced-motion support: animations and video are respected by
prefers-reduced-motion.
Known limitations
We check the site regularly, but a few known gaps remain:
- Some archival photos on the catch gallery use alt text that is descriptive of the scene rather than of every fish species in the image.
- The conditions page pulls live NOAA data — if NOAA is unreachable, we display a fallback message but the data table itself is not populated.
- PDF versions of blog posts are not currently generated with tagged headings.
Testing
We test with recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on macOS, iOS and Android. We regularly run automated audits (Lighthouse, axe) and check the site with VoiceOver on macOS/iOS and TalkBack on Android.
Report an issue
If you run into an accessibility problem — a link you can't reach with a keyboard, text you can't read, a form you can't submit — please let us know so we can fix it. Email [email protected] or call/text 631-252-6536. We aim to respond within 5 business days.
Alternate ways to book
You can always book a trip by phone, text, or email — you don't need to use the site. Call 631-252-6536 or email [email protected].
