Captain Skippy Charters is proud to be on the leading edge of striped bass and tautog (blackfish) research out of the Town of Brookhaven on the north shore of Long Island. We have teamed up with Gray Fish Tag to offer customers the unique opportunity to participate in tagging, naming and releasing over slot sized bass, tautog, and other important commercial and recreational species caught. Tagging these fish will help provide important information towards the studies of migration patterns and growth rates of Long Island Sound fish populations. Every fish tagged connects our customers to ground breaking research efforts towards the future of sustainable fisheries. Over the last 3 seasons Captain Skippy Charters has also teamed up with Cornell Cooperative Extension, to assist catching striped bass for their "Contaminants in Striped Bass" research project. The data gathered proves the health of our local fisheries by testing contamination levels (Mercury and PCBs) , sex ratios, population age demographics, growth rates, and DNA analysis of striped bass caught in the central Long Island Sound region.
